Canine Or / The Mesh of Metaphor is an A5 pamphlet with the inner pages printed on 90gsm tracing paper and hand-stitched with cream linen thread. The poem – ‘Canine Or’ – is a potentially never-ending series of metaphorical chain-links, beginning with ‘my tooth / which is to say…’ and is interleaved with pen tracings from a photomicrogram of Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, which cause Lyme disease and are carried by so-called ‘deer ticks’. The cover is an A3 poster folded down to A5, one side inkjet-printed with a vector image of the same photomicrogram and the other with a broadside version of the poem – in this formation known as ‘The Mesh of Metaphor’.
The cover of the first edition is printed on 100gsm Zerkall Rough; the cover of the second on 100gsm Zerkall Smooth.
